The Dragonfly Symbolism

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I have noticed through reading message boards and talking to friends that often while we are developing at times we are greatly affected by “the unknown.” Such as, for example, not knowing what changes are coming next, unknown spirit presences, etc. Some times the unknown are things in our daily life such as not knowing whether husband and wife will be able to work their problems out and stay together or will divorce. Often the unknown can cause great anxiety which in turn can effect whether we can sleep, eat, focus, or just function normally in general.

Often when i am feeling anxiety or feeling anything for that matter that I don’t understand what the cause of it is I talk to my guides about it. I know that they will let me know one way or the other what is going on with me or simply a sign of whether there is even any real reason to even be feeling anxious.

So today was one of those days and I was talking to my guide about it when suddenly a dragonfly flew by…but on his way by he stop dead in his tracks (so to speaks) and hovered almost perfectly still in front of my patio screen door as though he stopped specifically to say hi to me. That I can honestly say has never happened before. Then in case I wasn’t paying attention my dog started acting weird and at the same time I heard my printer turn on. When it turns on its pretty loud so there is no mistaking it because the device inside it slides over when the power button is pushed. It’s a large Dell 5 in 1 printer with a flat bed scanner…so it is fairly large too. I went over and checked it but the printer was off. Well my guides make noises all the time when I am talking to them so I am use to it so I knew right away that was just to make sure I knew the dragonfly was in fact a symbol for me and not just a coincidence (which I don’t beleive in coincidences anyway).

About the Dragonfly

Dragonflies are old and adaptive insects, and are most powerful in the summer under the effects of warmth and sunlight. They are fantastic flyers, darting like light, twisting, turning, changing direction, even going backwards as the need arises. They are inhabitants of two realms - starting with water, and moving to the air with maturity, but staying close to water.

Their colors are a result of reflecting and refracting the power of light. As a result, they are associated with color magic, illusion in causing others only to see what you wish, and other mysticism.

Dragonflies are often represented in Japanese paintings, representing new light and joy. To some Native Americans they are the souls of the dead. Faerie stories say that they used to be real dragons.

Dragonflies are reminders that we are light and can reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so. “Let there be light” is the divine prompting to use the creative imagination as a force within your life.

The Meaning

I am posting this info as is and giving the link because for all your animal symbolism needs you need to bookmark this site, it’s awesome…http://www.whats-your-sign.com/animal-symbolism-dragonfly.html.

As a creature of the wind, the dragonlfy totem represents change. It’s iridescent wings are incredibly sensitive to the slightest breeze, and so we are reminded to heed where the proverbial wind blows - lest we run into stormy weather.

Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative the the subconscious, or “dreaming” mind and thoughts.

This is because in the animal world, water is symbolic of the subconscious mind (”deeper mind,” “dreaming mind”) and relates to the thoughts we have in relaxed/meditative/sleeping/subconscious states.

Dragonflies carry messages that deal with deeper thought - and they ask that we pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires.

Why This Makes Sense to Me

Last night I couldn’t sleep even though I was so tired. Every time I closed my eyes I would immediately start seeing things and having visions. Every time I did manage to doze off I would immediately start dreaming and for some reason disturbing to me like a nightmare is disturbing although nothing about what I was seeing should have bothered me. But I would just let the visions come. I kept stopping them because like I said for some reason they were freaking me out. Right before I saw the dragonfly I was talking to my guide about the visions and why I kept stopping them and the unexplained anxiety I had been feeling.

Notice in the section above says “Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative the the subconscious, or “dreaming” mind and thoughts. This is because in the animal world, water is symbolic of the subconscious mind (”deeper mind,” “dreaming mind”) and relates to the thoughts we have in relaxed/meditative/sleeping/subconscious states.”

To me there are two messages here for me.

One is about change. Yes I am going through lots of changes in many different ways and aspects of my life.

The other message for me is an answer. The question was…I told my guide that I know I kept stopping the visions instead of just going with the flow and letting them come. I asked for another chance to do this because I have been stopping visions from coming like I did last night for some time now and for the same reason. Something would make me feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Same thing that use to happen when I first started hearing spirit voices outside my head when I was in the inbetween awake and asleep state. So this is my confirmation that we will be trying this again, if not tonight then very soon. lol.

Dream Interpretation - Unresolved Family/Inner Child Issues

Friday, September 26th, 2008

THE DREAM

I was it what looked like my living room but it looks bigger and even more open. There were lots of toy all over the place. There was a little black girl that was looked to be about 5 years old…she looked like how I looked when I was that age and had this cute little dress on that looks like one I had. She was so sweet looking and innocent. She was playing. She walk over to this coffee table that looked like the coffee table from when we lived in Newburgh, NY. But she tripped or feel over something and hit the table in a weird way where she hit it with her whole body bent over it and hit it also so hard on the top that she was knocked out cold. I freaked and ran over and grabbed her and held her in my arms and started screaming for help. My mother had been out in the back yard and came running in. She said something about “You spanked her so hard that she passed out?!” I got pissed and said of course not. I was really mad that she said that. Then I tried to explain what happened.

INTERPRETATION

Unresolved issues going back to when I was a little girl. Issues that were never dealt with. From the time I was little I was bullied and control by my parents and still to this day they bully me, guilt trip me and try to control me. The harder I fight back and try and resist them the uglier it gets. In my waking state I feel like I am fighting two of the worlds scariest demons. This dream clearly shows the unresolved issues and also the fact that I am clueless to how to resolve the issues and how much it is bothering me. The in my face scarey confrontations with harsh hurtful words that I experience quite often from my mother happens again in this dream…it is about my feelings of my parents always blaming me for everything and always pointing the finger like “What did you do now?!” And also shows how I always react by trying desperately to explain myself almost as though I have to convince her of how things really are versus the way she is seeing them and misunderstanding me.

My inner child is still cowering in the corner afraid to come out because she is still not as strong as these people who are her parents. I still don’t know how to deal with the bullies who torture me but I don’t let people see how bad things are inside and I portray a person who is totally together, strong and can handle anything.

SYMBOLISM/MEANINGS

Living Room - To dream that you are in the living room, represents the image that you portray to others and the way which you go about your life. It is representative of your basic beliefs about yourself and who you are.

Furniture - Represents how you feel about yourself and your family. It refers to your relationships with others and how they fit into your life.

Coffee Table – Wood and always super polished. I remember it as not ever having anything on it. It was actually a very inexpensive coffee table but with that high gloss finish and the way my mother kept it polished it looked very expensive and classy. “Looks can be deceiving!”

Furniture & High Polished Coffee Table – Putting the two together makes more sense to me. Now it reminds me of those activities children do in school where they pick ou which object does not belong. That coffee table most definitely does not belong in my life. If it were in my living room it would stick out like a sore thumb. It would be the one thing you could point out and say that it does not belong. And regarding how I feel about myself and my family I feel that we are all living a big fat lie. I feel that my parents have pulled off the biggest charade, posing as loving parents and spouse that are kind and supportive. I see them as wolves in sheeps clothing and they put the sheep costume on for family and friends but they do not wear the sheep costumes for me…they take it off behind closed doors and show their true colors with sharp claws and all.

Toys – Childhood, Domestic Joy and Harmony. They were in the living room so it means that I try to make it seem that domestically everything is fine. Maybe also about my childhood and how I feel that there was an appearance that everything was perfect when things were far from perfect in my world.

Little girl – longing for the past and the chance to satisfy repressed desires and unfulfilled hopes. Take some time off and cater to the inner child within. Perhaps there is something that you need to see grow and nurtured. Also signifies my attempts to save a part of myself from being destroyed.

Little girl being hurt - signifies wounded emotions or feelings that you may have suppressed. You need to address these feelings in order to properly heal.

Little girl being knocked out - unable to consciously confront the issues or the topic that is being raised by the unconscious. In the dream, internal forces, images or emotions that may be to powerful for us to process may have an overwhelming effect on the dream ego and passing out/fainting occurs. Fainting in your dream suggests that you are unable to consciously confront the issues or the topic that is being raised by the unconscious. In daily life, we faint when we are ill or when we are overcome by environmental forces (i.e. heat, smells, a traumatic event or a dramatic visual image). The fainting dream may be the first step in a process of becoming more aware of a particular area of your life.

My Childhood – Part of this dream has things from my childhood. The coffee table… some childhood anxiety has yet to be resolved in your adult life. That is so true and what has been bothering me lately.

My mother - To dream that you are having a conversation with your mother, denotes a matter that has preoccupied your mind and you are not sure how to deal with it in your waking life. It indicates unresolved problems that still need to be worked out with your mother.

Interpreting Dreams

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Many have dreams that are so interesting, horrific, or just plain weird that they get curious about what they mean. I have been developing my dream interpretation skills for a year now and it has been great practicing interpreting others dreams and seeing how messages and clues are given so cleverly in dreams.

In order to begin interpreting your dreams its important to understand a few things. First, most often dreams are not literal although sometimes they can be. For example, if you spent all day at the bowling alley, listening to the sounds of the alley all day it is not inconceivable that you might dream of the bowling alley. It’s your brains way of unloading and releasing some of the stuff from your day. Sometimes a dream is just a dream, so don’t fall into the trap of thinking that everything you dream has some deep meaning. If your on a diet and have been thinking of how badly you want to eat that last slice of apple pie in the refrigerator then it is not so hard to imagine that you may dream about having your way with that last slice of apple pie.

People in your dreams are often not who you see in your dreams. Your best friend may not be your best friend but most likely represents some part of yourself. For example, when I dream of my best friend it is usually because I often wish I was more like her. More responsible and less live for the moment. lol. Another example is that sometimes Father’s in a dream are Father’s but often they represent what you think of when it comes to a Father. Authority figure, strength, bread winners, protectors, disciplinarians. What does the Father figure mean to you? Seeing my father in my dream may not interpret the same way as you seeing your father in your dream. To make it even clearer I will use this example. Say you were abused by your father growing up. But say someone else’s father was so loving and supportive and giving. So as you can see the dreams would interpret differently based on what Father means to you.

Details are very important. Every detail in a dream must be interpreted to find the meaning/message of the dream. One detail left out and not interpreted could completely change to meaning of the dream. For example, suppose you dream of your neighbor and they are in a convertible sports car. What color was the car? Were the door open? The top down? Where were they sitting in the car? The drivers seat? Did you get in the car? What else were they doing or were they talking? Did they drive off in the car? Was there anything else about the car such as it had two steering wheels or no steering wheel? Was the neighbor driving from the back seat? As you can see seeing something simple like that has so many details to be noticed and interpreted. Another example is maybe you are in a boat in the ocean…what was the condition of the waters? Was it a bright sunny day or storming? Was there lightening also? Was the boat a certain color? Were others in the boat with you? What were their emotions?

Even seeing people there are details to notice. Hair color, length of hair, color of cloths, did they talk, were they faceless, were they laughing, crying, etc.

The task of interpreting a dream is not easy at times but very rewarding. It takes time to learn what many of the things in a dream means. You may be a natural but if you are not and you are like me you will use a dream dictionary in the beginning. But always remember to ask the question…what does such-and-such mean to me.

Happy dream interpreting!

Dream About Two Red and White Snakes

Wednesday, August 13th, 2008

I haven’t been remembering my dreams for the past few days but last night I had a dream that seems to stand out in a way that appears to want to be noticed by me.

I was on my back porch of my house (house/home is about the self) and there were two snakes just outside the door. I can’t remember why I had the door open. I closed it a couple of times with the snakes still outside but it seemed that I was trying to let the small baby snake (I know it was a baby snake cause a while back I found a baby snake in my apartment where I use to live…cute but I still didn’t want to touch it). I kept trying to open the door and let the baby snake in but the large full grown snake was right there also and was tryung to come in. I remember saying out loud in my dream that I didn’t mind if the small snake came in. The small red/white snake came in first. Then followed immediately by the large red/white snake which I was clearly scared of.

Also the door to the back porch opened outward and I remember that inside as I looked back it did not look like a back porch but a living room and I could see a lamp on a table. The door opening sometimes signifies new opportunities that will be presented to you. A door opening to the outside signifies a need to be more accessible to others.

I can tell you that what has been on my mind the past couple of days is my blogging. I have never been able to blog before because I had a hard time coming up with ideas of what to blog about and then basically stop almost before starting good. But this time seems to be different. I also seem to be receiving much help from my guides with blogging. Things just seem to be flowing nicely although I still need to work on improving my writing. But I have been worried about whether I will be able to do this. I mean all the way and make some money at it.

So let me not keep you waiting…the meaning of the dream seems to be that the large red and white snake represent the old (old ways, old me)…letting go of the old. The small snake seems to represent the new. The small red snake I was not afraid of and wanted to come in represents the new. Letting the old go and accepting the new. The lamp that was on and I saw the light coming from represents moving toward greater enlightenment/spirituality. Possibly inner. The lamp could also signify guidance, hope, enlightenment and reassurance.

The only part of the dream I am still pondering is that once both snakes were inside I couldn’t find either one of them. In my dream this really worried me. The could be pointing to the anxiety I have regarding my blogging.

A Great Dream Website

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

For those of you who are into or wanting to get into translating your dreams, I have got the website for you!

http://www.thedreamwell.com/page/page/6310600.htm

The Dream Well is an awesome site that explains that really you are the only one who can translate your dreams. Because our own minds, higher selves, spirit guides, etc use symbolism that we individually will understand and relate to…you are the only one who will understand what certain symbolism means to you. Also you are the only one who knows the ins and outs of what has been going on in your life which your dream may be referring to. If your spirit guide wants you to know that a person in your life shouldn’t be trusted do you think they will give you symbolism you can understand or that anyone in general MIGHT understand. It is you that must understand the message and the only way that will happen is if symbolism is used that you can relate to.

The Dream Well will help you understand all that and more. So before you go out and buy that expensive dream dictionary with the pretty colorful pictures, visit The Dream Well and become an expert at translating YOUR OWN dreams.

Thank you to whonever left me the comment letting me know about this site. Much love to you!
