Symbolic Meaning of the Spider

Friday, June 19th, 2009

I am not fond of spiders by a long shot. I have had my share of bad experiences with spiders so I would really prefer not to have a message coming to me by way of the spider symbolism but it has been unavoidable this past week. Spiders every where!!!

One day this past week one crawled on my leg. Day two of the spider encounters a small one crawling on the tile floor in my hallway. Day three spider encounter sitting at my computer another little one came down on it’s web right in front of the monitor. Obviously by that point I was not noticing a pattern so that night a dream full of little spiders so I said “Okay, I am paying attention and I get that you are trying to tell me something.” This morning a spider is building a home on my patio and I must admit I feel guilty at the thought of ruining his day by taking a broom to him and his home he worked so hard on overnight. lol. I must say that with all these spider encounters I did not have any of the normal anxiety emotions I normally feel in the pit of my stomach at the sight of them. That in itself say a little something…that this message is not one to feel anxious about and it is not a bad omen or warning.

The spider is an ancient symbol of power, mystery and growth. Much of what the spider has to tell us is in the construction of it’s web. The spider weaves an intricate web that serves as his home, the way he gets food to feed himself and also acts as a place of growth for its eggs. For it’s life the web for the spider is about survival. Also consider that the spider can CREATE it’s web just about any where and it is not even concerned it seems about what might come along at any moment and ruin it’s hard work. The spider to me is fearless for it will build its web outside with no thought of the fact that it might rain and the winds blow and wipe out its home. It just moves on without another thought and starts the process all over again some where else and many times bravely again in the same place.

What about us humans? The spider shows us that it is all about CHOICES. We have choices (free will) we can make and we literally can make any choice and any decision we want, true? True! Ahhhh but the spider tells us something even more important. Whatever choice we make constructs our lives and so even though we may be fearless we still need to be mindful of the choices and decisions we make for we create our own destiny.

So if you have been recently pondering some decision and unsure of what direction to head in or unsure if the decision will keep you on or throw you off your path…the spider says the decision can be any direction but just remember whatever you end up with is what you yourself have weaved.

Buzzard and Vulture Symbolism

Saturday, April 11th, 2009

Within the past few months on several occasions I have driven by a large grouping of Vultures and once again this morning I came across a large group of vultures. It even seems they are getting closer and closer to me. What I mean is, the first time I saw a group of them on the front lawn of an apartment complex but quite a distance from the road. Most recently at the entrance to the community pool in my subdivision and close enough to the road for me driving by to scare them off temporarily. They were having their way with a poor cat which I think had been hit by a car. That sight didn’t sit well with me and I actually tried to just put it out of my mind (except for saying a little prayer for kitty). This morning as I was driving  on a road that is behind my parents house (a short cut) I could see them up ahead. They seemed to be coming out of the woods on the left and crossing over the road to the right shoulder of the road where there was some sort of dead animal. I don’t know what animal because I didn’t want to look. They didn’t fly off this time and seemed pretty bold. One was crossing the street as I neared where they were and then after I passed I looked in my rear view mirror and the one that had passed in front of my car walked back to the middle of the road and I swear turned and just stood there starring in my direction. Creepy? Yes! lol.

I admit that I have put off investigating the meaning of this. I know that many people think buzzards/vultures are a sign of death or at least bad luck…and I sure don’t need any of either! So today I have put on my big girl pants and researched the meaning. What I have found totally matches up with what I have been going through lately and seeing the buzzards totally makes sense to me.

The  Buzzard/Vulture teaches the power of purification of the mind, body and spirit. Also this intimidating bird aids accomplishing tasks through great patience and vision, using your sense of smell and discernment, and how to glide and soar with your own energy.

He teaches efficiency in actions and promises that changes are imminent. (I have recently been dealing with fear of moving foward with a project and this morning I decided to resign myself to a “Nothing ventured, nothing gained attitude.”)

He shows how to restore harmony of thoughts and feelings so one can reach new heights with little effort. (Just this morning I was thinking about how when I was younger and I would get an idea, I would be acting on it before the thoughts were even complete in my head but how I noticed that I hesitate as though I have something to lose or a fear of failure)

Buzzards will aid in uncovering truths, clarifying previous conceptions, and allow to see and hear subtle hidden qualities using intuition and awareness.

Buzzard can teach confidence and the ability to stand with dignity and soar with clarity and purpose.

He shows how to seek a new and heightened vision while increasing sensitivity.

The message here is that IT IS time to put on my big girl pants and to leave them on, to leave behind any perceived limitations for they are not real and only in my mind if I let them exist. It is time to put action behind those ideas because the buzzard will aid in transforming knowledge to bring forth the unconscious to conscious. He will teach me how to soar above it all and find the transformation I am needing at this time in my life.

I am ready!

The Dragonfly Symbolism

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

I have noticed through reading message boards and talking to friends that often while we are developing at times we are greatly affected by “the unknown.” Such as, for example, not knowing what changes are coming next, unknown spirit presences, etc. Some times the unknown are things in our daily life such as not knowing whether husband and wife will be able to work their problems out and stay together or will divorce. Often the unknown can cause great anxiety which in turn can effect whether we can sleep, eat, focus, or just function normally in general.

Often when i am feeling anxiety or feeling anything for that matter that I don’t understand what the cause of it is I talk to my guides about it. I know that they will let me know one way or the other what is going on with me or simply a sign of whether there is even any real reason to even be feeling anxious.

So today was one of those days and I was talking to my guide about it when suddenly a dragonfly flew by…but on his way by he stop dead in his tracks (so to speaks) and hovered almost perfectly still in front of my patio screen door as though he stopped specifically to say hi to me. That I can honestly say has never happened before. Then in case I wasn’t paying attention my dog started acting weird and at the same time I heard my printer turn on. When it turns on its pretty loud so there is no mistaking it because the device inside it slides over when the power button is pushed. It’s a large Dell 5 in 1 printer with a flat bed scanner…so it is fairly large too. I went over and checked it but the printer was off. Well my guides make noises all the time when I am talking to them so I am use to it so I knew right away that was just to make sure I knew the dragonfly was in fact a symbol for me and not just a coincidence (which I don’t beleive in coincidences anyway).

About the Dragonfly

Dragonflies are old and adaptive insects, and are most powerful in the summer under the effects of warmth and sunlight. They are fantastic flyers, darting like light, twisting, turning, changing direction, even going backwards as the need arises. They are inhabitants of two realms - starting with water, and moving to the air with maturity, but staying close to water.

Their colors are a result of reflecting and refracting the power of light. As a result, they are associated with color magic, illusion in causing others only to see what you wish, and other mysticism.

Dragonflies are often represented in Japanese paintings, representing new light and joy. To some Native Americans they are the souls of the dead. Faerie stories say that they used to be real dragons.

Dragonflies are reminders that we are light and can reflect the light in powerful ways if we choose to do so. “Let there be light” is the divine prompting to use the creative imagination as a force within your life.

The Meaning

I am posting this info as is and giving the link because for all your animal symbolism needs you need to bookmark this site, it’s awesome…http://www.whats-your-sign.com/animal-symbolism-dragonfly.html.

As a creature of the wind, the dragonlfy totem represents change. It’s iridescent wings are incredibly sensitive to the slightest breeze, and so we are reminded to heed where the proverbial wind blows - lest we run into stormy weather.

Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative the the subconscious, or “dreaming” mind and thoughts.

This is because in the animal world, water is symbolic of the subconscious mind (”deeper mind,” “dreaming mind”) and relates to the thoughts we have in relaxed/meditative/sleeping/subconscious states.

Dragonflies carry messages that deal with deeper thought - and they ask that we pay attention to our deeper thoughts and desires.

Why This Makes Sense to Me

Last night I couldn’t sleep even though I was so tired. Every time I closed my eyes I would immediately start seeing things and having visions. Every time I did manage to doze off I would immediately start dreaming and for some reason disturbing to me like a nightmare is disturbing although nothing about what I was seeing should have bothered me. But I would just let the visions come. I kept stopping them because like I said for some reason they were freaking me out. Right before I saw the dragonfly I was talking to my guide about the visions and why I kept stopping them and the unexplained anxiety I had been feeling.

Notice in the section above says “Dragonflies are also creatures of the water, and any creature whose habitat is in, or around water carries symbolism relative the the subconscious, or “dreaming” mind and thoughts. This is because in the animal world, water is symbolic of the subconscious mind (”deeper mind,” “dreaming mind”) and relates to the thoughts we have in relaxed/meditative/sleeping/subconscious states.”

To me there are two messages here for me.

One is about change. Yes I am going through lots of changes in many different ways and aspects of my life.

The other message for me is an answer. The question was…I told my guide that I know I kept stopping the visions instead of just going with the flow and letting them come. I asked for another chance to do this because I have been stopping visions from coming like I did last night for some time now and for the same reason. Something would make me feel uncomfortable and uneasy. Same thing that use to happen when I first started hearing spirit voices outside my head when I was in the inbetween awake and asleep state. So this is my confirmation that we will be trying this again, if not tonight then very soon. lol.
